Nokta Score Review: Simple Multi-Frequency Detecting Without the Extra Controls

The Nokta Score is a waterproof, simultaneous multi-frequency metal detector designed around simplicity. It combines three search modes with automatic and manual ground balance, noise cancellation, pinpointing and several discrimination patterns, but leaves out many of the adjustments found on more advanced detectors.

That makes its intended role fairly clear: this is a detector for someone who wants capable core technology without spending each session navigating detailed menus. At the time of research, the Nokta Score was available from LP Metal Detecting for £299.95.


What does the Nokta Score offer?

The Score has Park, Field and Beach modes. Park and Field can operate using Nokta’s M1, M2 and M3 simultaneous multi-frequency options or at a single frequency of 15 kHz. Beach mode uses simultaneous multi-frequency exclusively.

Nokta recommends multi-frequency operation in every mode. It says Beach mode is suitable for dry sand, wet sand and underwater use, with simultaneous frequencies intended to reduce false signals caused by conductive salt and seawater. These are manufacturer claims, however, as the approved sources contain no independent UK salt-beach test.

The detector is IP68-rated and submersible to five metres. Its standard SC30 DD coil measures 30 × 23 cm, or 12 × 9 inches, and the package includes a coil cover, charging and data cable and user guide.

Other practical features include a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, Bluetooth audio, vibration alert, adjustable backlight and an LED torch.


Are the controls genuinely simple?

Yes, although simplicity brings restrictions.

The Score has five sensitivity levels, automatic noise cancellation across 13 channels and automatic or manual ground balance. Four discrimination patterns are available: All Metal, Ground Off, Ferrous Off and Custom. This does not amount to individual Target ID notch filtering. You select a predefined pattern rather than constructing a detailed rejection programme.

Targets are displayed on a 01 to 60 scale. Nokta assigns 01 to 10 to ferrous targets and 11 to 60 to non-ferrous targets, while warning that Target IDs are only “probable”. Small, deep or awkwardly positioned objects may produce unstable or disappearing readings.

Park mode has three fixed tones, while Field and Beach have two. You cannot adjust recovery speed, tone count, tone breaks, iron volume or threshold. There are also no saved user profiles, bottle-cap rejection or Relic mode.

These omissions are central to understanding the detector. The Score is not an advanced detector with an easy mode. It is deliberately built with fewer controls. For readers wanting that approach, LP Metal Detecting describes the Score as easy to use “without needing lots of advanced settings”.


How has it performed in published reports?

Independent testing is the weak point in the available material.

One UK review claimed coin-sized targets were detected at 20 to 25 cm and larger objects beyond 30 cm. It also described separation as good and performance as weaker in heavily mineralised soil. However, the article provides no named tester, settings, measurements, photographs or disclosed test conditions. Those depth figures cannot sensibly be treated as verified performance.

There is also no controlled comparison with similarly priced detectors, no measured recovery-speed test and no verified evidence from UK pasture, ploughed soil, stubble or iron-contaminated archaeological ground. Battery endurance and long-term reliability remain untested within the approved sources.


What are detectorists saying?

Published user feedback is thin, but it exposes the main trade-off.

A UK forum contributor characterised the Score as “basically a switch on and go SMF”. Another rejected it because the fixed tone arrangement did not suit their preferences. Their description of how the tones were allocated was incorrect, but the underlying objection remains relevant: experienced users who rely heavily on configurable audio may find the Score restrictive.

The only identified owner report covers two short outings by the same person. After roughly two hours, the owner wrote, “I wish the detection tone was a little crisper and the recovery a little faster”, although they still considered it a machine they could work with.

Ten days later, following another 90-minute session, the same owner reported being very pleased with the detector. They also noted that a metal button produced a sufficiently convincing response to fool them. That aligns with Nokta’s warning that Target IDs indicate probability rather than certainty, but one isolated recovery cannot establish a general pattern.


Overall Impression

The Nokta Score combines simultaneous multi-frequency operation, five-metre waterproofing and useful everyday features in a deliberately reduced control system. Its principal limitation is equally deliberate: owners cannot tune recovery speed, tones or individual Target ID rejection to match their preferences.

Published feedback indicates that this simplicity can be either the attraction or the reason to dismiss it. What remains missing is substantial UK field testing under the conditions in which many detectorists will actually use it.
