Nokta Legend Pro-Pack Review: Detailed Specifications, Performance and Detectorist Opinions

The Nokta Legend Pro-Pack is a simultaneous multi-frequency metal detector built to cover a broad range of detecting conditions. Four search modes, five selectable single frequencies, adjustable recovery speed, extensive discrimination controls and two supplied coils make it considerably more configurable than a simple switch-on-and-detect machine.

The Pro-Pack goes beyond the detector itself. It includes the larger LG30 search coil, the smaller LG15 coil, Bluetooth headphones and a waterproof spare battery. This makes it a relatively complete package for detectorists who expect to work across farmland, pasture, beaches and more contaminated sites.

That breadth comes with a cost beyond the purchase price. The Legend gives the user substantial control over its behaviour, but published UK experiences show that understanding those controls can take time. Some detectorists describe a stable, comfortable machine that needs few adjustments once configured. Others report chatter, uncertain signals and a difficult transition from simpler detectors.

This review examines the complete specification, manufacturer claims, an independent UK review and four UK detectorist discussions. UK Detectorist has not independently tested the Legend.

What is the Nokta Legend Pro-Pack?

The Legend is Nokta’s simultaneous multi-frequency detector. In simultaneous multi-frequency operation, the machine uses multiple frequencies rather than requiring the detectorist to select one fixed operating frequency. LP Metal Detecting also lists selectable single-frequency options of 4, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz.

Its four search modes are Park, Field, Beach and Gold Field. These provide starting configurations for different ground conditions and targets, but they do not reduce the Legend to a collection of fixed programmes. Frequency shift, noise cancellation, recovery speed, threshold settings, discrimination and iron filtering can all be adjusted.

Nokta positions the Legend as suitable for both newer and experienced detectorists. That description needs qualification. The physical controls were considered accessible by the Skill School reviewer, but some menu functions require combinations such as a double button press. The reviewer said: “I found navigating the menu needed a little practice.”

A detectorist moving from a Nokta Simplex reported a more difficult experience. They found the Legend complicated, noisy and hard to trust until they received configuration advice from other users. One forum response summarised the difference neatly: “it’s a trade-off, simplicity for a bit more homework.

The Legend can therefore be used by a relative newcomer, but describing it as straightforwardly beginner-friendly would ignore an important part of the published experience. It offers room to learn and adjust, rather than insulating the user from technical decisions.

What do the two supplied coils add?

The Pro-Pack includes an LG30 30 x 23 cm DD coil and a much smaller LG15 15 cm DD coil. This gives the buyer two physically different options without requiring an immediate additional coil purchase.

The LG30 is the main supplied coil and provides greater ground coverage. The LG15 gives the detectorist a more compact alternative where a large coil would be awkward or where targets are closely spaced. In principle, the two-coil package broadens the machine’s usefulness across open land and more congested conditions.

The evidence does not include a controlled comparison between the two coils, however. There are no approved measurements showing how they differ in depth, separation, pinpointing, weight distribution or sensitivity to small targets. It would therefore be unjustified to attach precise performance gains to either coil.

What can be said is that the package gives the user a choice of coil size from the outset. Whether that choice materially improves a particular site will depend on the ground, target density, settings and the detectorist’s technique.


How much control does the Legend provide?

The Legend’s adjustable settings are central to both its appeal and its learning curve.

The machine offers simultaneous multi-frequency operation alongside five selectable single frequencies. This gives the detectorist a choice between a broad multi-frequency search and a specific operating frequency. The approved community material also includes advice to try a single frequency when persistent chatter cannot be controlled, although this is detectorist guidance rather than a verified manufacturer procedure.

Adjustable recovery speed allows the user to change how quickly the detector responds between targets. Faster recovery can be useful where adjacent objects need to be separated, while one Detecting Hub contributor believed that using a very low recovery speed added depth on relatively clean ground. That observation was not produced through a controlled test and should not be interpreted as a universal setting recommendation.

Noise cancellation and ground balance are important parts of the configuration discussed by users. When one detectorist struggled with a noisy machine, forum respondents advised returning to a factory programme, performing noise cancellation and ground balancing, moderating the sensitivity and changing only one setting at a time.

This advice exposes an important operating reality. The Legend may allow a detectorist to address instability, interference or difficult ground, but it also requires them to identify which adjustment is relevant. Altering several settings without understanding their interaction can make the machine harder to interpret.

Once correctly configured, the experience can be quite different. The Skill School reviewer reported: “Once I had it set up, it required very little changes when searching new land.” They consequently regarded it as a set-and-forget machine in normal use.

These positions are not necessarily contradictory. The machine may need meaningful initial learning and configuration before it becomes easy to operate consistently.


How does it handle iron and unwanted targets?

Nokta equips the Legend with several tools for controlling unwanted responses. These include All Metal, Ferrous Off, Ground Effect Off and Custom notch discrimination, together with iron filtering and FerroCheck.

FerroCheck is intended to provide an indication of the ferrous content of a target. The community reports show that it can add useful information, but they also show why it should not be treated as definitive.

A contributor on The Detecting Hub said: “The feature which tells you how much of the object is iron works well too but not at much depth.” This suggests that the display’s usefulness may deteriorate as target depth increases.

An MDF Metal Detecting Forum user had a similarly mixed result during a two-hour field session. FerroCheck indicated that one possible worn coin was non-ferrous but provided no indication on several buckle fragments and buttons. That does not mean those objects were incorrectly classified. It means the feature did not provide useful confirmation on every recovered target.

The same session reportedly produced no dug iron or coke despite both being present on the site. This is encouraging as an account of that outing, but the test was uncontrolled and used software version 1.07. Current software behaviour cannot be inferred directly from it.

The Legend’s 01 to 60 target-ID scale provides another source of information, but the IDs are not a substitute for listening to the response and considering the site. In that early MDF session, several different objects clustered between 31 and 34. The contributor concluded that “the target ID numbers and other screen info can only tell you so much.”

A second user reported a weak tone and an uncertain 39 to 40 ID on a large Victorian penny. Soil, target orientation, settings, interference and depth were not sufficiently documented to isolate a cause. Together, however, these reports show that neither the numerical ID nor FerroCheck should be expected to remove uncertainty from every target.


What depth has been reported?

Depth is one of the most frequently praised aspects of the Legend in the UK community material, but it is also the area most vulnerable to overstatement.

A Detecting Hub contributor reported recovering coins at at least 10 inches in pasture and considered the detector responsive to small objects. Their description was that the Legend “is responsive to very small items too.

In an early field session reported on MDF, a small buckle fragment was said to have been recovered at more than 12 inches, with other objects found at approximately 4 to 9 inches. The user initially ran sensitivity at 30 but reduced it to 28 when the detector became unstable, reporting that it “started OK on 30 but got a bit of chatter.”

Another long-term UK detectorist described a small coin fragment producing a clean response at about 5 inches and a fibula producing a strong response beyond 6 inches. Their overall assessment was that the Legend “does the job very well indeed.

These examples establish a recurring pattern of positive depth and small-target reports. They do not establish a repeatable maximum depth. None records the complete combination of soil conditions, target size, target orientation, coil, programme, software version and measurement method needed for a controlled comparison.

One contributor also challenged the importance placed on maximum depth, arguing that “the obsession with depth, certainly in the UK where we detect mostly on farmland, is overrated.” That is a useful qualification. A detector must provide a recognisable, diggable response while dealing with ground conditions and nearby unwanted metal. An isolated depth figure says little about those combined demands.


Is the Legend stable or chattery?

Published experiences differ considerably.

The Skill School reviewer used the Legend inland and on beaches, found the controls accessible after practice and reported that few adjustments were needed after the initial setup. A Detecting Hub user found that wet-soil settings reduced noise. These accounts present the Legend as manageable when configured for the conditions.

Two MDF discussions raise the opposite concern. One early user reduced sensitivity from 30 to 28 because of chatter. Another detectorist moving from the Simplex wrote: “I’m finding it really noisy ( chattery).”

The second account also described difficulty deciding which signals to trust. Forum respondents proposed several possible remedies, including starting with a factory programme, changing one control at a time, performing noise cancellation and ground balance, reducing sensitivity and trying a single operating frequency.

The problem is that the reports do not isolate the cause. Chatter can be connected with sensitivity, electrical interference, ground conditions, programme choice, frequency or user configuration. The evidence does not show that the Legend is inherently unstable, but it does show that some users encounter instability and may need to diagnose it.

Running maximum sensitivity is not necessarily the most productive response. The early field report is particularly useful here because reducing sensitivity did not prevent the detectorist from reporting finds at substantial depths. Stable information at a slightly lower setting may be more useful than additional noise at the maximum.


How reliable are its target responses?

The available accounts range from clean, confident signals to weak and uncertain responses.

One experienced user described a clean response on a small coin fragment and a strong response on a fibula beyond 6 inches. Another user, however, reported that a much larger Victorian penny produced a weak tone with an uncertain target ID. They later recovered four George III pennies, demonstrating that their outing was not wholly unproductive, but the initial lack of confidence remained part of their assessment.

These reports cannot be compared directly. The targets, sites, depths and settings were different and incompletely documented. They nevertheless illustrate that target size alone does not determine signal quality.

The early MDF report also found different recovered items sharing a narrow range of target IDs. That is not necessarily a defect. Conductivity-based identification cannot identify an object uniquely because unrelated targets can produce similar electrical responses. It does mean that the Legend’s screen should be used as one part of the decision rather than treated as an object identification system.

For experienced users, the substantial tone, filtering and recovery controls may help build a more complete interpretation. For someone moving from a simpler machine, the quantity of information can initially reduce confidence rather than increase it.


Is the Legend genuinely suitable for beginners?

It depends on what is meant by beginner-friendly.

The display was described by Skill School as large and easy to read, and the physical controls were generally accessible. Four purpose-based search modes give a new user recognisable starting points. Once the reviewer had completed the initial setup, they found that the machine required little adjustment between new areas.

Against that, menu navigation required practice and some functions involved double button presses. The Simplex user’s experience shows that familiarity with another Nokta detector does not guarantee an easy transition. They found the Legend more complicated, noisier and harder to trust.

The distinction is between accessibility and simplicity. A newcomer can operate the Legend, but extracting consistent performance may require learning what recovery speed, frequency, sensitivity, noise cancellation, ground balance and iron filtering actually change.

The community recommendation to begin with a factory programme and alter one setting at a time is sensible because it preserves a clear connection between an adjustment and the resulting behaviour. It also prevents the user from creating a difficult configuration and then being unable to identify which change caused the problem.

The Legend is therefore better described as accessible but technically involved. It gives a developing detectorist substantial room to progress, though someone wanting minimal configuration may find the range of controls burdensome.


What are detectorists saying?

The strongest recurring positive theme is versatility. Manufacturer and retailer descriptions present the Legend as capable across inland, beach and difficult-ground detecting, while the Skill School reviewer used it on both inland sites and beaches. Community reports add pasture and farmland experience. There is no controlled cross-terrain comparison, but the range of published use is broader than a single-site claim.

Depth and small-target response also recur. The Detecting Hub report describes pasture coins at 10 inches or more and sensitivity to small items. The early MDF account includes a small buckle fragment at more than 12 inches. A separate long-term user reports clean or strong signals on a small coin fragment and a fibula.

These are materially different observations rather than repetitions of one test. They were made by different users on different ground, but none used a documented test method. They support depth and small-target response as recurring positive opinions, not a verified performance specification.

The most important criticism is not that the Legend lacks controls, but that the controls can become an operational burden. One user struggled with chatter and signal confidence after moving from a Simplex. Another encountered chatter only at sensitivity 30 and controlled it by reducing the setting. Skill School found the menus needed practice but regarded the detector as easy to leave alone once configured.

There is consequently no single community verdict on ease of use. The recurring pattern is that setup knowledge matters.

FerroCheck receives similarly qualified support. One contributor found it useful at shallower depths but less effective deeper down. Another received a useful indication on one possible coin but no indication on several other non-ferrous finds. It is an additional clue, not a conclusive answer.

Target IDs also need restraint. Several object types reportedly clustered between 31 and 34, while a large penny gave an uncertain 39 to 40 reading in another account. Detectorists expecting the screen to identify targets precisely may be disappointed. Those treating it as one layer of information alongside tone and repeatability are less likely to overinterpret it.

Firmware is viewed positively because the Legend is software-updatable, but the approved evidence does not establish how current software version 1.17 performs against older releases. In particular, the field account using version 1.07 cannot be assumed to represent the current recovery-speed scale or present behaviour.

Overall, UK detectorists describe a machine with credible versatility, reported depth and sensitivity to small targets. The recurring reservations concern configuration, noise, the limits of screen information and the need to learn how the machine responds on a particular site.


How credible is the independent review?

The Skill School review contributes observations from inland and beach use. Its most useful findings concern the practical interface: the display was considered large and readable, the controls accessible and the menu system something that required practice. The reviewer also found the detector lightweight and comfortable and described battery performance positively.

Those points have limitations. No independent weight measurement was supplied and battery duration was not documented under stated settings or conditions. Broad statements about depth and discrimination were not accompanied by repeatable measurements.

There is also a commercial connection that should be visible to the reader. The reviewer bought the detector from LP Metal Detecting and promotes an LP discount code. This does not invalidate the observations, but it means the review is not commercially detached.

Its most persuasive contribution is therefore not an unmeasured performance claim. It is the more nuanced account of setup and use: the menu needed practice, but once configured, the machine required few changes on new land.


What does Nokta claim?

Nokta presents the Legend as adaptable across different targets and ground conditions. It claims strong depth and discrimination in iron-contaminated sites, quiet and stable operation on beaches and underwater and suitability for small gold in highly mineralised ground.

The manufacturer also says adjustable recovery speed helps separate small targets among unwanted metal, while target IDs and harmonic tones assist identification.

These are manufacturer claims rather than results established by the approved independent material. The UK user reports provide some support for depth, small-target response and use across different ground, but they do not verify Nokta’s full performance claims.

The approved material is particularly thin on wet salt sand, surf, underwater use and highly mineralised gold ground. The Skill School reviewer used the detector on beaches, but the review does not provide a detailed salt-beach test. No approved source independently tested submersion.


How waterproof is it?

The current sources conflict.

Nokta describes the Legend as IP68 and states: “Fully submersible up to 5 meters (16ft) and protected from total dust ingress.

LP Metal Detecting states that the detector is waterproof to 3 metres. The evidence does not explain whether this is outdated retailer copy, a distinction affecting a particular UK package or a difference between components.

Neither depth should therefore be presented as definitive for the current UK Pro-Pack without clarification. Anyone intending to submerge the detector beyond 3 metres would need to resolve the discrepancy before doing so.

The Pro-Pack’s LG30 and LG15 coils are both described as waterproof, and the additional battery is also listed as waterproof. No approved source independently tested any component underwater.


What about weight, comfort and battery life?

Nokta lists the Legend at 1.3 kg and describes it as balanced for extended use. Skill School considered the detector lightweight and comfortable, which provides some practical support for the general handling claim. The reviewer did not independently weigh it or document a long-duration comfort test.

Nokta says the internal battery “Provides up to 20 hours of use.” It can be charged by USB or power bank, and the Pro-Pack includes a waterproof spare battery.

The independent review described battery life positively but did not record the operating time, search mode, audio arrangement, backlight use or other conditions. The 20-hour figure should consequently be treated as the manufacturer’s maximum claim, not an independently established expectation.

The spare battery remains a practical package advantage. It provides another power option for longer sessions, although the evidence does not quantify the additional running time.


What remains unproven?

The approved reports provide useful experiences but leave several important questions unresolved.

There is no controlled depth test recording the target, soil, orientation, coil, programme and measurement method. No approved source compares the Legend directly with another detector under matched conditions.

Weight, balance and battery duration have not been independently measured. There is no independent submersion test and no resolution of the conflicting 3 metre and 5 metre waterproofing claims.

The evidence does not contain a detailed assessment of wet salt sand, surf or underwater performance. It also does not compare the LG15 and LG30 coils or quantify target separation, recovery-speed trade-offs and iron-filter performance.

Software changes are another uncertainty. The Legend is updatable, but the material does not establish what version 1.17 changes compared with earlier releases. Reports based on older firmware remain useful historical experiences, but they should not automatically be applied to a current machine.

Finally, there is no approved long-term evidence covering reliability, warranty claims or repairs. The package specification is comprehensive, but its durability over an extended ownership period cannot be judged from these sources.


Overall Impression

The Nokta Legend Pro-Pack combines simultaneous multi-frequency detection with selectable single frequencies, four search modes, extensive adjustment and a two-coil package. Bluetooth headphones, a spare battery, vibration, a torch and waterproof construction add to an unusually complete specification.

Published UK users repeatedly report good depth, sensitivity to small objects and useful performance on farmland and pasture. Those accounts are encouraging but anecdotal. They do not establish a controlled maximum depth or superiority over another detector.

The more consequential divide concerns usability. Once configured, the Legend can behave like a machine that needs relatively few changes between sites. Reaching that point may require menu practice, controlled adjustment and a willingness to understand how its settings interact. Chatter and uncertain signals appear in more than one community account, although users also report reducing instability through sensitivity changes and site-appropriate setup.

FerroCheck and the target-ID display provide useful additional information, but published reports demonstrate their limits, particularly on deeper targets and objects sharing similar conductivity ranges. Neither should replace interpretation of the audio response.

The unresolved waterproofing discrepancy also matters. Nokta states 5 metres while LP states 3 metres, and the reviewed material does not establish which figure governs the current UK Pro-Pack.

The Legend Pro-Pack is best understood as a technically capable and highly configurable detector rather than a simple premium package. Its breadth is the central attraction and the principal source of difficulty.
