Accessibility Statement

UK Detectorist is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA across our pages and features.

This statement applies to: https://www.ukdetectorist.co.uk/

Prepared: 20 August 2025 • Last reviewed: 20 August 2025

Using this website

You should be able to:

  • navigate most of the site using only a keyboard

  • zoom in up to 200% without the text or functions breaking

  • use the site on modern browsers and devices (desktop, tablet, mobile)

  • understand content written in plain English with clear headings and link text

  • find alternatives for non-text content (for example, image alt text and video captions where provided)

We’ve designed layouts to be responsive and tested common journeys such as reading articles, browsing the directory (clubs, events, hoards, finds & ID, reviews), and using search and filters.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible yet:

  • Legacy images and galleries: some older posts may be missing descriptive alt text.

  • Embedded media: some third-party videos may not have accurate captions or transcripts.

  • Third-party platforms: certain event or club links point to Facebook pages or ticketing sites that may require an account or may not meet the same accessibility standards.

  • Maps and interactive filters: map embeds and some filters rely on third-party code. Keyboard support and screen-reader labelling are being improved.

  • Colour contrast: a small number of legacy buttons and badges may not meet contrast guidelines.

We are actively addressing these issues as part of an ongoing improvement plan (see “What we’re doing to improve accessibility” below).

Feedback and contact information

If you need information on this website in a different format (accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio description), or you encounter an accessibility problem we haven’t listed:

We’ll consider your request and get back to you within 10 working days.

If your request is time-sensitive (for example, event details), tell us and we’ll prioritise it.

Reporting accessibility problems

We’re always working to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, please contact us via the Contact page or email gordanovalleygroupltd@gmail.com with:

  • the page URL

  • a brief description of the issue

  • your browser, device, and any assistive technology used (for example, VoiceOver, NVDA)

Enforcement and advice (UK)

UK Detectorist is a private organisation, not a public sector body, but we aim to follow UK best practice and the Equality Act 2010. If you need independent advice about accessibility or discrimination, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). Guidance on making your device easier to use is available from AbilityNet.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

  • Standards compliance: We are working towards WCAG 2.2 AA. New features are built with accessibility in mind (“accessible by default”), and legacy content is being upgraded.

  • Compatibility: We support the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on current Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. Older browsers may not receive full enhancements.

  • Assistive technologies: We aim to support keyboard-only navigation and popular screen readers (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS/iOS). We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels where appropriate, and visible focus states.

Content and features outside our control

  • Video players (e.g., YouTube/Vimeo) and map embeds have their own accessibility features and limitations.

  • Event and club listings may link to Facebook or other social platforms that require login; we try to include a public alternative (official site or ticketing page) where available.

  • Retailer links and manufacturer pages vary in accessibility; we do not control these sites.

Where feasible we will provide an alternative (summary text, transcripts, or screenshots with alt text).

What we’re doing to improve accessibility (roadmap)

We’re implementing the following improvements during 2025:

  • Alt text audit: add or improve alternative text on legacy images and galleries (Q3–Q4).

  • Media transcripts & captions: prioritise transcripts/captions for high-traffic videos and audio, and encourage creators we feature to do the same (ongoing).

  • Keyboard and focus review: ensure all interactive components (menus, filters, accordions, modals) are reachable and operable via keyboard with visible focus (Q3).

  • Contrast fixes: update remaining low-contrast UI elements (Q3).

  • Form labels and error handling: verify accessible names, instructions, and error messages across contact and submission forms (Q3).

  • Map and filter alternatives: provide non-map lists and simplified filters for users who cannot use interactive maps (Q4).

  • Content guidance: maintain an internal checklist so all new posts (news, reviews, directory pages) meet WCAG 2.2 AA from publication.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 20 August 2025. We review it at least annually or when we make significant changes to the site.

Our approach includes regular self-assessment using a mix of manual checks and automated tools, and user feedback from the detecting community. If you’d like to help us test with assistive technologies, get in touch via the Contact page.

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-off task. We’ll keep improving UK Detectorist so more people can research, learn, and plan their next day in the field—without barriers.
